CITY OF FOREST HILLS HOSTS ENVIRONMENTALIST JUDSON NEWBERN TO SPEAK TO NEIGHBORS REGARDING THE ALLIANCE TO CONSERVE NASHVILLE’S HIGHLAND RIM FOREST

The City of Forest Hills’ Cultural and Natural Resources Committee is hosting a lecture series to educate community residents about our city. Local environmentalist Judson Newbern will present The Alliance to Conserve Nashville’s Highland Rim Forest Thursday, March 27 at the Forest Hills City Hall at 5:30 p.m.

“We’re honored to host one of Nashville’s leading environmentalist Judson Newbern to share how we can help conserve trees and green space in our community which is so vital to protecting our land, air, waters, wildlife, scenery and children’s future,” said Susan Andrews, chair of the Cultural and Natural Resources Committee of the City of Forest Hills.

Judson Newbern, who holds a master’s degree from Harvard, came to Vanderbilt in 1985 as Associate Vice Chancellor for Campus Planning and Construction and retired as Deputy Vice Chancellor for Facilities and Environmental Affairs from Vanderbilt.

Newbern is the founder of Alliance to Conserve Nashville's Highland Rim which is a growing community of Nashville residents, neighborhood organizations and existing non-profits sharing a common vision in connecting and conserving the Highland Rim Forest linking Radnor, Warner Parks, West Meade, Bells Bend, Beaman and Whites Creek.

Newbern said, “Forest Hills has historically been at the forefront in Nashville in respecting the need to conserve trees and green space. I’ve been the point person since its inception two years ago for this alliance and am eager to share the group’s activities with the community. Our focus is on connectivity linking Radnor-to-River. We eventually hope to connect a trail from Radnor Lake up to Beaman Park including a bicycle and hiker’s ferry to replace the old car ferry at Bells Bend.”

The lecture is free and open to the public and refreshments and light snacks will be served. The event will be held at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, March 27 at the Forest Hills City Hall at 6300 Hillsboro Pike in Nashville.
