Inspections

Now That You Have Your Permit, What Happens Next? As Your Project Moves Along, The City Requires Permit Holders to Complete Inspections. The City of Forest Hills Has Adopted The 2018 IRC Effective June 4, 2021. The City of Forest Hills Does Not Accept Third Party Verifications. All Inspections Must Be Completed by The City of Forest Hills Building Inspector. All Trade Inspections Including Electrical, Plumbing, And HVAC Are Conducted by Metro Nashville. The City of Forest Hills Requires the following Inspections:

New Construction and Additions

  • Erosion Control (Must be in place before any land disturbance)

  • Footing & Slab

  • Foundation Survey 

  • Foundation Inspection (waterproofing, barrier, green board in place, and anchor bolt placement with washers & nuts installed)

  • Framing

  • Insulation

  • Final (2 Stage - Final Interior Inspection & Final Engineer Site Inspection)

  • Use & Occupancy

Pools

  • Inground (once hole is dug)

  • Rebar

  • Pool fill

  • Pool final & fence final

Interior Remodel

  • Framing

  • Insulation

  • Use & Occupancy

Inspections must be made at least twenty-four hours in advance. Inspections can be scheduled by calling City Hall or using the Permit Portal.

  • City Hall Phone Number M-F 8 am-4:30 pm

  • Permit Database 24/7 (requires your Contractor Code). If you do not have your Contractor Code, please contact City Hall.

  • Enter your permit number, contractor name, applicant name, or property address.

  • Select the appropriate “Search by” field from the drop-down box.

  • Hit the “Search” button. Locate your permit and select the link for “Schedule an Inspection”.

To find out the status of an inspection

  • The inspector will email the permit holder regarding the results of the inspection.

  • Call City Hall at Phone Number M-F 8 am-4:30 pm

  • Visit the Permit Database 24/7.

  • Enter your permit number, contractor name, applicant name, or property address.

  • Select the appropriate “Search by” field from the drop-down box.

  • Hit the “Search” button. Locate your permit and select the link for “View”.

  • Locate the Inspections section of the detail view page to view the status of the inspection.
